UPDATE 10/5/06: A nice man named David has offered to keep this page updated until I can take it over again, but with more surgery in my immediate future, I realize that I can probably no longer keep this page up to date.  I asked David if he could take it over, and he has graciously agreed.  So, if you have updates on 'older' stamp companies, please email David directly at david@artstampn.com To view the latest updates from now on, please go to David's website page at:
http://www.artstampn.com/whatever%20happened.html

Thanks, David, and thanks to ALL of you who have been so generous to send your information to keep everyone as up to date as possible on these great old stamp companies! Whatever info you have sent ME that did NOT wind up being updated, please resend it to David.
Best Wishes...Joan

Acey Deucy ???... Lea, AKA Legs, writes, "Lynne Perella is still very active with this company. I don't know of a website, but I have heard that Wonderland Emporium sells her images online. Acey Deucy does a lot of wholesale, apparently because I see them in every stamp store I ever visit! Lynne is still on the editorial board for Somerset Studio, I believe." On 7/18/03, Cheryl Johnson sent this information: Acey Deucy is still alive and well at:  P.O. Box 194, Ancram, NY 12502. THANKS, Cheryl!! On 5-05, Stampo, owner of VVLS, sent this update: "I hear that Acey Deucy has gone under."  Does anyone know for SURE? 5/17/05
UPDATE 12/05:  Sue writes that she received this email in June of this year from owner of Acey Deucy:
"Sorry. I am currently in the process of selling my stamp line, so am not taking any new orders. The sale is still a work in progress, and it will take a while to be
finalized. Best wishes, Lynne"
UPDATE 5/6/06: Cathy sends this update from owner, "
I am taking a hiatus from the stamp business, for personal and professional reasons, and the final outcome is still very shadowy and uncertain.  I am exploring some avenues for placing my stamp designs with other sources, but the process is very slow.  After having Acey Deucy for so many years, I don't want to make the wrong decision in terms of what is "next".   So, for now, the company is on hold. Lynne Perrella"
UPDATE 5/11/06:
Susan at www.stampdiva.com bought up all of Lynne Perrella's remaining Acey Deucy inventory stock. When that stock is gone, she won't be selling Acey Deucy any longer, as she didn't buy the company, just Lynne's remaining stock.  The company is apparently still up for sale.

On 10/4/04, Gillian emails:

"I was Interested to see a mention of "Alice in Rubberland" on your site. I designed a whole range of Teddy Bear stamps for Paul in the 1990s, but when he moved to Seattle he sort of dropped off the radar, and I've heard nothing further from him. Would be very interested to know if he's still in the business, or where he is now, should you have any info.  As I live in Nottingham, England, obviously I have to rely on the internet for any scraps of news, and I'd be grateful for anything you could pass on. A.N.T. Transfer... Lisa wants to know where they are. So do I! : ) Donnie England to the rescue! Donnie reports: A.N.T. Transfer was a partnership of two highly creative women, Nancy Gano and Ann Kerchner. (A.N.T. stands for "Ann & Nancy together"). About 8 years ago the partnership dissolved and Nancy Gano continued on as the sole proprietor of the company, until it's sale to Magenta Art Stamps. Ann Kerchner went on to pursue other interests and is currently a dental hygienist living in Nipomo California (near San Luis Obispo). Nancy also began to pursue other interests along with helping to run Rubberama Festival Productions until 1998. Artistamp ... www.artistamps.com   UPDATE 8/12/05:

Well, after nearly 12 years in business, the past several months have been some of the most stressful for me. Demands on my time are coming from several directions, and when I prioritize, unfortunately, Artistamp is not at the top of the list. I must come to accept the reality that I can't do this on my own, it isn't fair to our customers, both the ones who have supported us in the past and know that we used to be more responsive and able to keep up; and to our newest customers who have discovered us perhaps because of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, but who have to be wondering what kind of operation are we running here. To you all, I apologize. I will have to see what my business partner wants to do. (She moved out of state last summer, and since then, I've been handling the business by myself. Even though I have a full-time job outside of Artistamp, this was not a problem until I had a baby in February. Now I have very little time even for myself.) In the meantime, please do not send us any payments for orders, either PayPal or by mail. You may continue to send inquiries about stock availability and I'll get to those as I can. Please be sure to specify if you have a need-by date, and keep in mind that I'm more likely to have unmounteds in stock, as my stock of mounteds is limited, and I'm not planning to put in another manufacturing order until I can confer with my business partner on the future handling of the company. I will be going through the backlog of PayPal payments and offering either a refund, or if I have the stamps in stock, the stamps. It'll be up to you. I still intend to have a sale, but I won't know when that will be, as I've not had time to go through the entire inventory list. If you send a stock availability inquiry, I will reply with sale prices, now until further notice. Most unmounted dies will be priced from $1-$3, and many of our in stock mounted images will go for close to our cost. Again, my apologies, and thank you for your past support. Loretta (AKA Lorelei de la Mer)

Subject: Re: delay in receiving your orders
Date: Mon, 20 Sep 2004 12:13:45 -0700
I know that you have been patiently waiting for your catalog or order.  I apologize for the delays and have not (to my knowledge) either charged a credit card or cashed a check for any order that has not shipped.  I cannot
tell you when I will be able to send your merchandise.  My family is (and has been) going through a crisis that is unpredictable in nature and I cannot tell you when there will be a lull long enough for me to respond to
your orders.  If you would like to cancel your order, please email me.  If you've send a check or you've send me credit card information, I'll shred the order.  It is too difficult to deactivate the web site temporarily, but if this situation continues, I will take down the site to discourage orders.
I know I'm receiving negative P.R. on some of the boards, but it is not my intent to defraud anyone but explain that this is not my top priority right now.  Sometimes life gets in the way of rubber... Thanks for your understanding, Elaine Madrid  8/2004

Fruit Basket Upset .... Just wanted to know if anyone knows what happened to Fruit Basket Upset? Barb
Can you help Barb?  5/16/04  On 5/26/04, this info came in: "I saw their works on the web with www.stampfrancisco.com FYI, Jam."

UPDATE 3/7/05: "Interesting site you have..... I am the original owner of Fruit Basket, Flying Eye and Ivory Coast.  Things have certainly changed quite a bit since I've been out of it.  I used to work with Funny Business. They were one of the very first companies back in the late seventies.   I worked for them when the silent
partner, Bruce Dearborn, came in to rescue it, just long enough to recoup his investment. I believe it all sat in a cargo container outside the original owners house for quite some time. I don't think
anyone ended up with it.  As a side note..... I bought another company that should be on your list "Rubber Brothers" They were one of the first that started back in the 70's. Their catalog was actually a groovy poster, and they advertised in the back of Rolling Stones. They were originally out of Idaho or Montana.... and when one of the original owners moved to Seattle, I bought what was left, some posters and the original art, and engravings. I also was a silent partner in a company called Remarkable, which was a good little company. When I started back in 85, it was really a great thing....
truly had it's own magic, and for the most part, the people and companies that were around were laid back and easy going. There really wasn't such a thing as rubber stamp stores... just the occasional paper goods shop that might devote more than a shelf to these things. You felt lucky if you could get a shop to carry a dozen of them. Part of the excitement was the underground feeling they had. There were far fewer bunnies, hearts and teddy bears back then. RSM, and Stampola were printed on newsprint in black and white,  and the craft industry hadn't gotten their mitts on them yet. There was no glitter glue, no fancy accessories, just rubber, ink and paper (as it was meant to be). I left the business for health reasons... and sadly because what had started out as a cool underground art movement with good artists...slowly turned into a money grab and cut-throat business practices.
I think all of us are happy to be out of it, but miss the original spirit of the whole thing. D. K."

I started IDD in the late 70's with the goal of it becoming profitable enough to support my stamping habit. In 1992 the company had 62 full time employees. I sold it to Ron Gelb and then left the building.  Ron died a couple of years ago and the company was sold to Dimensions.  You're correct that IDD purchased Flim-Flam. We owned its huge catalog of classic designs, but I doubt that the current owners of IDD are even aware of that.  Happy trails,   Karen Richards"

Loving Little Rubber Stamps
3/7/06:   Lynette Wagner writes: "
About 16 years ago, in Santa Fe, NM, I opened a stamp store called Guadalupe's Rubber Stamps and started my own line of stamps known as Our Lady of Rubber. One of my favorite companies was called Loving Little Rubber Stamps.  She had many images of food and other great objects and things. Would anyone out there know where she ended up?  I hate to think that her line just up and vanished. Since I am still very much involved in the rubber-stamp-making-world and always looking for good designs, hers would be one I'd love to acquire were it available."

Hey Joan!  I've been reading over your "whatever became of..." web page (great resource, by the way), and I thought that you might want to let people know that Dana Snyder -- of Hissyfit / Mars Tokyo / Adorned Surface -- has been selling a bunch of those old images on eBay. Her username is sass*box. I don't know how much longer she'll have stuff to sell, but she has had a number of auctions running consistently for at least the last month.  I hope that'll help out some forlorn stampers! I know that I was absolutely ecstatic when I found out! Keep up the great work! Thanks, Sarra B.

Mostly Animals....UPDATE 8/11/05:  www.mostlyanimals.com

I was just looking over your list of stamp companies and their status. I noticed that Mostly Animals (now also known as Kristal Clear Impressions) was not included and thought you might like the updated info, straight from the horse’s mouth (so to speak). My line is still currently available (retail only) via the internet. This is a temporary situation as I am currently closing down the website/business. I anticipate that the current inventory will be able to meet the demand of the sale through the end of summer (possibly into October). I plan to put the images away as a legacy for my grandchildren and do not intend to sell to another company. I’ve so enjoyed working with everyone in the business, and will keep the memories close.

San Francisco St. #11, Santa Fe, NM 87501, Ph: (505) 982-9862 Web site:  www.funrubberstamps.com Geri called the new owner and got this up to date information: "The owner did tell me that she's in the process of trying to sell her stamp store and has it listed with a broker.  The previous owner is the person who does Our Lady of Rubber....and she sells exclusively to Guadalupe stamps.  I hope she finds a new owner and that the store doesn't close down.  That would be a real shame since it's the only stamp store in Santa Fe that isn't part of a chain."

PSX ... Adrienne sent this interesting post about PSX:      "Hold the phone!! This is not a new development.  As the new release states, Duncan has had a 50% presence in PSX since 2002.  The remaining ownership was held by employees, such as long-time employee and President Jim Doty. At the time of the partial sale to Duncan, the owner and founder did not want to relinquish complete control and wanted to assure the company she founded would continue to flourish.  Duncan's ownership brought about many changes in the company and from my viewpoint, all changes have been good.  They have broadened product lines offered to include more crafting and scrapbooking products to compliment the stamps. For example, I just received a catalog supplement that includes a wide line of Tulip Rub-Ons. Another change, definitely for the better, is early this year they hired back an artist that had been with them for many years past.  This artist was responsible for many of the "old" PSX botanical designs.  In the past several supplements, I see a trend going back to the 'old PSX look.'   More classic designs. PSX definitely has not "caved in" and has consistently been one of the few stamp companies that has been a money maker."
On 8/6/03, I got this info from Gail that might interest those of you who like to embroidery: "
PSX has quite the deal worked out with Amazing Designs (sort of a subsidiary of the Baby Lock company). They sell an embroidery design card that comes with either one or two rubber stamps, and the designs are the classic-type botanicals (not with the writing, just the picture). If you are curious at all, you can check it out at   www.amazingdesigns.com.
NEW UPDATE 3/14/05 FROM RSM:"
Galilee passed your e-mail on to me. PSX does still have a web page. Go to: www.psxdesign.com For all of us in the stamping world that really like the PSX line, we are really hoping that as Duncan (In June 2003, PSX was acquired by Duncan Enterprises, a well-established craft manufacturer.) drops the images, someone else picks them up.  Perhaps as shoppers we can continue to use the PSX Design web page and it won't really matter who is behind the scenes! Good luck! Angela RSM"  (THANKS, Angela....and Galilee!)  Another UPDATE: 5-05 .... Stampo, owner of VivaLasVegasStamps, sent this update: "Duncan discontinued selling PSX, so the link you have that goes to Duncan is misleady, Joan. None of the PSX designs are shown there. The link just goes nowhere, without even an explanation that Duncan dropped the rubber stamp part of their company the first of January 2005." Thanks, Stampo.  You can find Stampo's stamps on ebay, too now at http://www.stores.ebay.com/vivalasvegastamps?refid=store....UPDATE: 8/11/05:
Inkadinkado now carries PSX - announced in Feb 05 at CHA in Atlanta, according to Nancy

Quarter Moon ... More info from Nancy Ward, "Last I knew, Donnie England (Quarter Moon) was living in Santa Cruz, CA. I heard she was involved with Rubberrama for a bit after she closed QM."...... Valerie reports this surprize,  "Donnie (of Quarter Moon) works for RubberStampMadness." ... Stampo updates with, "Donnie England did do sales for RSM after closing QuarterMoon but she hasn't been there for months now... maybe even a year...  RSM told me when I asked was that she'd gone on to pursue other career interests
." Roberta at RSM told me, "She did work for RSM for a while and is a wonderful, wonderful person." 6/8/03
Directly from
Quarter Moon Owner, Donnie England 6/18/03:
Hi Joan,
Thanks for contacting me about the story you're doing for Rubberstampmadness. I enjoyed your website and also passed on the information to Barbara Cressman of Refried Rita, so you may receive an email directly from her. I'm also very close friends with Nancy Gano of ANT Transfer, so I'll get an official update from her about their status.  She does not do computers so I'll pass along that information once I talk to her later today.
So...where is Quarter Moon? It's sitting "on the shelf" gathering dust. I retired the business along about 1996 when my second business began to consume all of my time. Nancy Gano, Ann Kerchner and I owned and operated Rubberama Festival Productions from 1986 until it was sold to Kat Okamoto of A Stamp In The Hand Co. in 1998. It is now in her very capable and experienced hands and lives on with four shows a year, two in San Jose, CA (Spring and Fall) and one in July in Sacramento, CA and St. Paul Minnesota in October. Info about Rubberama can be found on their website: www.astampinthehand.com
But back to Quarter Moon and why it was retired. For many years I put on Rubberama and had a booth with Quarter Moon at each and every show, as well as doing mail order and attending other conventions around the country. The demands of organizing and promoting the stamp conventions soon made it impossible to "do it all" and do it well.  So I made the decision to retire Quarter Moon. I was also manufacturing the Refried Rita line of rubber stamps for my good friend Barbara Cressman. When I retired Quarter Moon I encouraged her to find another manufacturer for her wonderful, whimsical, and charming images. She sold most of her images to Gary Dorothy, owner of Stampa Barbara at that time. Stampa Barbara was later sold to ClearSnap. I had hoped they would contact Barbara Cressman to acquire more of her fabulous artwork, but to date they haven't. The other images that were in the Quarter Moon catalog still belong to me, and who knows, someday I may fire up the vulcanizer and give it another go.

After I sold Rubberama I had the priviledge to work at Rubberstampmadness as one of their advertising representatives for a couple of years. It was thrilling to work with Roberta Sperling and the wonderful staff at RSM. I hold RSM in the highest regard as being one of the integral reasons the rubber stamp industry grew with leaps and bounds beginning in the 1980's as it did. We have them to thank for our success in this industry.

Right now I'm alive and well and living in Santa Clara California (not Santa Cruz). I've also dabbled in private industry for awhile and worked for Calico Corners as their Labor Coordinator for several years. Currently I'm enjoying a bit of "semi-retirement" and deciding what to do next. But no matter what I'm up to, rubber stamps continue to be my first love. I've finally had the time to actually use and enjoy them now that I'm not in the business of manufacturing them or putting on rubber stamp conventions. I've been attending classes at ArtFest, Art Continuum, and at the Original Rubber Stamp Convention in Carson California (also run by Kat Okamoto of A Stamp In The Hand Co.). So life is full and still filled with rubber stamps!

Thank you for your interest and help with updating folks on "Whatever Became of...". Boy there's a lot of us isn't there? I had fun reading all the updates on your website. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to email or call.  I'll also email you later with the official word on ANT Transfer.     Thanks, Donnie England
And THAT, as Paul Harvey would say, is the REST of the Story!!   : ) THANKS, Donnie!!

Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers
http://www.rubberbaby.com  UPDATE 1/26/06: Rebecca sent this update:

I just spoke to Paula of Rubber Baby and got an update. She is selling the business and starting somewhere between Feb 6-13 she expects the site will be up and running again. They started a sale to sell off excess stock but the orders were overwhelming so they shut down for a bit. When the website reopens, wood mounted and supplies will be first come, first serve. They will continue to make unmounted stamps/sheets for the month of February. So if you were looking at their designs and wanted to order, make yourself a note for mid February! The UMs will be 30% off! www.rubberbaby.com  You can’t even look around the site right now but trust me, they are great!

Second Star On The Right ... 1/28/06 George from the UK is looking for this company and writes:  "I'm in the UK, so for me, pretty much every stamp company is located only on the web I'm afraid! I think I bought direct from them (they used to have a link on AMRSC) and a website www.secondstarontheright.com (seems to be under construction) - and also through Cardsnstamps and on ebay. They made gorgeous vintage images (including things like maps and nautical stuff), as well as some photostamps (one of which I use on an almost weekly basis) and some floral/botanicals as well. I bought as recently as a couple of years' ago (I think), and \a google search shows they were at a convention in Sacramento in 2002. Littlebit gives contact info as PHONE:253-927-1810, FAX:253-838-3542. I haven't tried these - calling from here is prohibitively expensive, and I don't have a fax. The area code would suggest Washington State, though. Thanks again for any help. George/UK" (NOTE: I tried calling the phone number and got what sounded like a residential answering machine. Will try again. Joan) I did try again and got the same recording. Left msg again, and no one contacted me, so must not be valid number any longer. 2/11/06

Here is a list of companies that Stamp Francisco Now Owns:
Gumbo Graphics...Bartholomew's Ink...Fruit Basket Upset...
.Ivory Coast

5/18/06:  Here is a History of Stamp Francisco that will interest you
, written by Roberta at RSM. It also has a little history of RSM, that is interesting as well. THANKS Roberta (and Angela) :

The original owners of Stamp Francisco were Bill (Picasso) Gaglione and his wife, Darlene Domel. They also were the manufacturers of Abracadada Rainbow Ink Pads. Bill and Darlene's company started in their garage. They'd take stamps to street fairs in SF. The company grew and eventually opened a museum/storefront/manufacturing location in San Francisco, in the warehouse district.
The company is now owned by Kat Tchen. She kept it in the Bay area for a while, then moved to Camas, Washington. She has expanded the collection, purchasing a number of companies such as Fruit Basket Upset, Gumbo Graphics, images from Bartholomew's Ink collection and more.
Bill and Darlene have since established another stamp company called Stampland. They, too, moved. For them the move was from SF to Chicago.

Stamp It, Stick It, Lick It ....... Barry Sochat writes, "Lance Peterson's business. I think it was sold to stamp-it,stick-it, lick-it in Oregon awhile back. Lance went back to school and his wife, who also had a company (GOOD GOOD the Elephant) also ceased to exist." Roberta, at RSM, emailed today, 9/5/03, to say that THIS COMPANY IS STILL IN BUSINESS. She says that there was just a change of ownership. Roberta went on to say, "Also, Gumbo Graphics may still be in business. The person who owned StampIt, StickIt, LickIt  owned both enterprises. I thought she said she was keeping Gumbo, but selling the store."
Later this same day, it was delightful to hear from the Owner herself, who has set the record straight here: "
Hello....we just had a customer call us and tell us we were out of business from looking at your web page... Marge Dillon owned the store STAMPIT STICKIT LICKIT  until October of 2000 when Dotti Holm purchased it.   Gumbo Graphic WAS sold to Stamp Fransico and GOOD GOOD the Elephant is no longer in business.  STAMPIT STICKIT LICKIT  (as a store) is doing  very well in our new location in the same mall we have ALWAYS been in Eugene,Oregon. So if you could claify that STAMPIT STICKIT LICKIT  was never a stamp company and that as a store we are still here!! Thanks for your help! Stamp'n Around......11/26/03    www.stampnaround.com/ Burning Rubberİ IS my real name, sends this: UPDATE 8/4/05: Stamp'N Around is becoming Sparkle N Sprinkle. I thought I would just copy part of her newsletter for you. Apparently Stampin Up made a fuss about the name of the company. Unfortunately when Stamp'N Around was born in October, 1997, the name was selected after extensive research among existing rubber stamp companies. Unbeknownst to me, however, Stampin' Up! trademarked their wheel stamp as "Stampin' Around". At this time, it is their contention that the public might confuse their product with our company and have given me a very limited amount of time in which to transfer our domain and e-mail address over to them.
Huge kudos to all of you who have helped to spread the word concerning our brand new identity and all the changes that it will entail; especially our new e-mail address and domain name.  My staff and I have been working around the clock and expect to have the new website up and running very soon.  It is imperative that you have changed your records to reflect our new e-mail address, Margaret@sparklensprinkle.com , and bookmark our domain name, http://www.sparklensprinkle.com . It is also necessary to delete my old e-mail address and domain name; starting August 26, 2005, they will be the property of Stampin' Up!  So, please, don't procrastinate in making these changes.

Visual Image Printery ....Closed according to Jamie...Capi Pike in Precott, AR adds, "Visual Image Printery aka VIP - Jim Eads and Terry Green split their business and Jim took this part of it, but was sued by a former employee who claimed to have been hurt on the job. He lost the business and as far as I know, has not started up another stamp business. A real shame and loss to the stamping world, too, as it was his art work that started it all. (He drew my logo for me.)."    On 8/28/03, Heather writes, looking for help;
"That is a great list you assembled. I've been looking for a certain stamp by Visual Image Printery, and now realize they are no longer in business. I'm guessing Jim Eads is still designing stamps 'somewhere' and I'd like to find out where. I'm searching for a beautiful full-length, front-facing fairy stamp that I believe he designed. The lower half of the image is surrounded with blobs/bubbles, as if she's walking through them. Is there a chance that Capi Pike, Prescott, AZ. may know if there are any VIP images sitting somewhere gathering dust? Thanks for any leads you can supply. Visual Lunacy Society .... Stampo wants to know: "Whatever happened to "Visual Lunacy Society"? I believe they were located in Florida and their designs were WILD.  I still have my Membership Certificate from them.  Their order form always listed an "offer for the whole company"... maybe they never got one?" Do YOU know whatever became of them?? 6/8/03

Wandakins
...
Wandakins does not have a website nor an email, but she is still in business designing stamps.  She is an angel company.  Her address is:  7290 E. Harrison Road, Port Orchard, WA  98366 and phone:  (360) 871-0849.  I'm sure she will send a catalog if asked.  She has a whimsical sense of humor and her stamps reflect the Pacific Northwest in one of her lines, and lots of fun stuff.  My favorite is a quote:  "old fishermen never die; they just lose their bobbers!" (Angel Company)  Info courtesy of Cheryl Johnson. THANKS, Cheryl! UPDATE 11/16/04:
"I carry a small selection of Wandakins and All Creatures stamps on my website, www.rubber-stamp-shack.com."

Wizard of Ah's ..... "Owner lives in Tucson, business is very scaled back." reports Jamie. Stampo says, "Owner, Mari Beth Roland, doesn't send out catalogs, but does fill orders that come in." Mari Beth wrote back to Stampo to say that she retired a few years ago due to health reasons, so Wizard of Ah's is definitely closed. 6/11/03

Works of Heart ... Closed, reports Nancy Ward, then adds, "This company had several embroidery design stamps...the images could be either colored or used as a guide for embroidery stitches.  Great idea!  Too bad they're still not in operation. (I have wondered if you could use most any rubber stamp in embroidary?  Just a thought, if the stamp isn't too detailed. Joan)
